Description:
A public comment period is now open through September 15, 2023. Share questions and feedback on the proposed changes via the Draft Child Care Zoning Text Amendment Feedback Survey.
Please join the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) for a virtual public meeting about Citywide Child Care Zoning on August 28, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. We will present proposed text amendments to the Boston Zoning Code that will make it possible to build day care centers and family day care homes in all neighborhoods of Boston.
These amendments will clarify how a child care facility is defined and regulated in the Zoning Code. The amendments will remove barriers in the Zoning Code to creating day care centers and family day care homes in all neighborhoods by making these facilities allowed land uses in parts of Boston where they are forbidden or need to meet certain conditions. The amendments include an update of the words and definitions we use to regulate child care facilities in the Zoning Code, specifically “Day Care Center” and “Family Day Care Home.”
This work is done in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Early Childhood, who will share information about the demand for child care and the barriers that the Zoning Code creates for child care providers in neighborhoods with high demand.
