Mayor Menino Welcomes EvaluatePharma to Boston
Nov 10, 2010
U.K. Life Sciences Service Opens U.S. Headquarters
Tuesday, November 10, 2010. Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the Boston Redevelopment Authority welcomed
EvaluatePharma USA
, Inc. to Boston’s biotech community at the opening of their new U.S. headquarters on Broad Street. Ranked the U.S.’s number one life sciences cluster, the city continues to attract biotech companies thanks to the LifeTech Boston program which works to attract and support biotech and life sciences companies. LifeTech staff began working with EvaluatePharma at the 2008 BIO convention and helped them in their search for their U.S. location. EvaluatePharma is an online analysis service for the global biotechnology and pharmaceutical sector.
At the event, the Mayor also welcomed three other life tech companies that moved to Boston this year:
Kowa Company
from Japan,
Intelect Medical
from Cleveland, and
Novophage
from Cambridge. In total, these companies are bringing over 40 jobs with the potential to grow even more. Kowa Company works side-by-side with Brigham and Women’s hospital to promote discovery and advancement in cardiovascular research. Intelect Medical is a medical device company that opened their offices in downtown Boston. Novophage is a small biotech startup out of BU and MIT that moved to the UMass Boston Venture Development Center this summer and is expecting to grow quickly in the city; LifeTech staff is already helping them find space for their expanded operations.
“It’s exciting to see that our life sciences cluster continues to grow,” Mayor Menino said. “I am proud to welcome these companies to Boston. These are forward-looking businesses on the cutting edge of technology. They can find no better place to commercialize their ideas than Boston – a city known for its drive to discover and incredible innovation. I’m also delighted that these companies are receiving support from LifeTech Boston – an initiative I founded to give biotechs a direct connection with City resources whether that’s through site assistance, financing, permitting or workforce development.”
Dr. Jonathan de Pass, CEO and Founder of EvaluatePharma said, “We are very grateful to Mayor Menino and the LifeTech program for their help and support in the opening of this new office. EvaluatePharma is committed to developing new products and services that continue to support the biotech community, such as the launch of our new service Partnering Opportunities. From our new Boston office we will now be able to work more closely not only with our Boston clients but also with all of our North America based clients within the biotech community, supporting them with innovative products and services designed to help the commercialization of their products.”
In addition to welcoming these new companies, the Mayor also celebrated the fact that
Research Blood Components
is embarking on an expansion of their office and lab space in Brighton to a new facility on Soldiers Field Road. The company, which received permitting and zoning assistance from LifeTech Boston, is the major blood supplier to all research and academic institutions and biotech and pharma companies.
About LifeTech Boston
LifeTech Boston, launched by Mayor Menino in 2004 and managed by the Boston Redevelopment Authority, offers assistance and business tools to attract, maintain, support, and enhance companies involved in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and other related industries. LifeTech Boston includes a finance program that supports these companies with low-interest loans.
