Oasys Moves to Boston's Innovation District

Mayor Thomas M. Menino welcomed clean technology company Osmotic Application Systems (Oasys) to Boston’s Innovation District. The new facility will include the company’s headquarters and cutting-edge research and development center focusing on developing a suite of proprietary energy and resource recovery products to address the growing, global water crisis. The company’s mission is to reduce the total cost of water desalination worldwide by 30 percent by the year 2030 while providing a sustainable water supply to areas most in need. Other pioneering companies already in the Innovation District include Sat Con, Next Step Living and FastCap Systems. “I am proud that Oasys will be undertaking its pioneering work in the city of Boston and I look forward to watching it grow substantially well into the future,” said Mayor Thomas M. Menino. “Oasys joins a growing list of businesses that are showing that the Innovation District is a great home for clean tech companies. What’s even more exciting is how these different companies are exchanging ideas and working together. They are underscoring how important proximity is to job creation and economic breakthroughs in today’s world.” Oasys is well known for having developed the Engineered Osmosis™ (EO) platform, a patented process designed to desalinate water at a fraction of the cost of conventional methods. The growing company brings 15-full time employees to the Innovation District and received $10 million in venture capital in February 2009 from Flagship Ventures of Cambridge, Advanced Technology Ventures of Waltham and Draper Fisher Jurvetson of California. “The Greater Boston area has had a long history of water businesses and we are very excited that now the city of Boston will build on the local water industry by welcoming Oasys,” said Aaron Mandell, Chief Executive Officer of Oasys. “Water availability is an extremely vital component of the rapidly growing clean technology sector and we expect desalination innovations like ours to further lead to strong manufacturing growth and job creation inside Boston.”
