Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center

Beth Isreal Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is located in the cluster of medical, academic, and research institutions which comprise the Longwood Medical and Academic Area of Boston. BIDMC dates back to 1896 when New England Deaconess Hospital was founded. New England Deaconess merged with Beth Israel Hospital (founded 1916) to form BIDMC in 1996. Today this 631-bed hospital is one of the largest hospitals in New England and receives over $200 million in research funding annually.
