Construction Services Selected for Thoreau Path Site Improvements

Jun 23, 2010

The BRA Board approved a construction contract to Fleming Brothers, Inc. to perform construction services for site improvements to Thoreau Path. Located in Boston’s West End, Thoreau Path is a 20 foot wide passageway that provides pedestrian connections to businesses and residences. The path knits together a superblock of residential high-rises known as the Charles River Park. In September 2009, the BRA selected STOSS Landscape Urbanism to perform the design services for the site improvements. The design has been vetted by the West End community through an extensive public outreach program involving three public meetings.

The scope of work includes addressing drainage issues along the path, a multi-faceted signage program, enhancements to the existing landscape and structural and aesthetic improvements to the pathway surface. The work also includes installing police call boxes, benches, informational signage and plantings which will enhance Thoreau Path’s use as a safe and beautiful urban park. The improvement work is slated to begin in early July and be complete in early November.
