Board Approves 461 Walnut Avenue in Jamaica Plain

Nov 17, 2010

The Board approved the 461 Walnut Avenue project in Jamaica Plain, which will redevelop an existing three-story building that was formerly operated by the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) as a 90-bed medical respite facility for homeless and disabled individuals. The building has been vacant since 2008 when BHCHP relocated the operations to a new space on Albany Street in the South End. The building will be substantially renovated to provide and operate a 20-bed respite care facility for homeless individuals on the first floor (to be owned and operated by BHCHP) and approximately 30 studio rental units intended for medically vulnerable and disabled formerly homeless individuals and a one-bedroom manager’s unit on the second and third floors (to be owned and managed by the Pine Street Inn.)

Total project cost is estimated at $10.1 million. The development team includes the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program, Inc. and Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation as co-owners/developers; Elton and Hampton Architects as project architect; and Klein Hornig LLP as legal counsel.
