Drydock Center Hosts BIO/Cleantech Workspace Design Charrette

Dec 09, 2010

With around 40,000 SF of space opening up in January 2011, North Star Management’s Jeff Wallace wanted to rethink what he could do next at Drydock Center. Drydock Center provides a perfect location for a mix of clean and life science technologies to work together, and the impressive list of current tenants, including Dana Farber, Immunetics, and SatCon, further proves this point.

On Thursday, December 9th, Jeff Wallace, along with Stephen Baker of Baker Design Group, hosted a design charrette with seven Clean and Bio companies to uncover the common denominators of lab/office/workspace needs between the two disciplines. Also in attendance were the BRA’s Martina Toponarski (Life Tech Manager), Galen Nelson (Green Tech Manager), Dennis Davis (Deputy Director of Industrial Development & Commercial Leasing) as well as Jim Bowen of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center and Rich Pinkowitz of Immunetics.

The meeting included lab tours of Immunetics and Dana Farber and discussions among the group about their current and future space needs. “The build out isn’t as difficult as getting the right things to build out,” said Stephen Baker. Encouraged by the discussion, Wallace said, “I think we can make this work.”

The next steps are for Wallace and Baker to produce some concept plans to present to the group for feedback. If you’re interested in joining this discussion, email [email protected].
