New Housing Moves Forward in Chinatown

New Housing Moves Forward in Chinatown Parcel 24, a 425,000 square foot, $130million, mixed-use development project received BRA board approval to provide new housing options in Chinatown & along The Rose Kennedy Greenway. The unique design and architecture of the building as well as the 13,600 square feet of new open space, will completely transform Hudson Street with residential life adding to the vitality of the Chinatown neighborhood. Parcel 24 will be an environmentally friendly, smart growth, transit-oriented, mixed-use development. The building will be LEED certified, creating long-term environmental sustainability and affordability for residents by using Energy Star appliances, highly durable materials, and efficient utility systems. Parcel 24 was first presented to the BRA board in 2008 and has now been approved for the following changes to the project: Original Project (October 16, 2008) Proposed Project (NPC) 0 market-rate rental units                                                            200± market-rate rental units 70± affordable rental units                                                          95± affordable rental units 66-99 affordable condo units                                                      50± affordable condo units 156-189 market-rate condo units                                              0 market-rate condo units 175 Parking spaces                                                                          125 Parking spaces approx 435,400 gross square feet                                           approx 425,243 gross square feet The developer, Parcel 24 LLC, is a joint venture between the Asian Community Development Corporation (ACDC) -- and New Boston Fund, Inc. (New Boston). This project will create approximately 700 construction jobs and 27 permanent jobs and is set to begin construction within the year.
