Board Approves New South Boston Residential Project

Jul 15, 2011

354-356 West Second Street Project in South Boston to Create 19 New Residential Units The Board approved the 354-356 West Second Street project in South Boston, which will create a new residential building with 19 condominium units, of which three will be affordable. The building, which will include 16 two-bedroom units and three one-bedroom units, will be a three-story wood-frame structure on the West 2nd Street side, and will step down to two stories on the F Street side. Parking for the $3.25 million project will be provided within the site, in an enclosed on-grade garage accessed from Dresser Street in the rear of the property. The exterior of the new structure will be a combination of brick at the garage level and clapboard above. Design features will provide light and activity on the sidewalk level, including landscaping on West Second Street between the building and the sidewalk. Residential scale trees will be planted along the West Second sidewalk in front of the building. The entrance lobby is designed to relate well to the streetscape, with generous lighting and large glass doors and window openings. The development team, led by Joseph Taylor, plans to begin the construction of the project in August of 2011 with an estimated completion date in August of 2012. The project architect is Sutphin Architects.
