BRA's 2011 Award Recipients

The BRA is delighted to announce Randi Lathrop and Janet Carlson as 2011 award recipients in public service and the legal profession.  Thank you, Randi and Janet, for your outstanding commitment, excellence, and leadership. Randi Lathrop, Deputy Director of Community Planning, has been awarded the Boston Municipal Research Bureau's 2011 Henry L. Shattuck Public Service Award in recognition for her outstanding contributions to the City of Boston.  For the past twenty-six years, Shattuck Award recipients have been honored for their individual commitment to public service.  Over 13 years at the BRA, and countless projects and initiatives, Randi has exemplified dedication, determination, and professionalism.  She was, and continues to be, a tireless advocate for Downtown Crossing, the South End, and all of Boston's neighborhoods.  Day in and day out, she has helped transform our city and continues to help plan its future!  Randi will accept the Shattuck Award on October 25, 2011 at the Seaport World Trade Center. Janet Carlson, First Assistant General Counsel, has been named by her peers as one of the "Top Women Lawyers in the Northeast" in the Martindale-Hubbell, the international authoritative information resource for lawyers.  Over 140 years old, more than one million lawyers and firms in over 160 countries are listed.  For the past 26 years with the BRA, Janet has been known as the go-to source for finding answers to complex matters.  Janet advises department heads and staff, represents the agency on legal matters in development review, residential and commercial property zoning and permitting, title and conveyance of property, affordable housing, and other real estate, government, and agency issues.  Janet is known for her dedication and for going out of her way to help others, including training staff on the Article 80 development review process.  Previous to her service to the City of Boston, Janet worked in the legal department of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
