Mayor Menino Celebrates Groundbreaking at Brigham and Women's Hospital

May 31, 2012

This week Mayor Menino celebrated the groundbreaking on the Thea and James M. Stoneman Centennial Park and Brigham Patient Parking Garage alongside Brigham and Women's Hospital President, Dr. Nabel, and project donors Thea and James Stoneman. The Thea and James M. Stoneman Centennial Park will be located at the entrance to Brigham and Women's Hospital at 15 Francis Street. The new green space will be open to the public and will greatly enhance the entrance to Brigham and Women’s Hospital and its presence on Brigham Circle. Brigham and Women’s has plans to plant 30-40 new trees, a rose garden and a vegetable garden. Below the park Brigham and Women's is constructing a 400 space underground parking garage, the Brigham Patient Parking Garage, that includes 74 bike spaces. The parking garage will alleviate patient parking on City streets and improve traffic circulation. Major construction began in April 2012, with an anticipated completion date of April 2014. The project creates 100 construction jobs. Brigham and Women’s Hospital employs more than 15,000 people, 33% of which are Boston residents. It is  a 793-bed teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School in the LMA, Boston’s cluster for health and life sciences.
