Mayor Menino in Downtown Crossing for PAUL French Bakery Announcement

Traditional French Bakery to open Boston Flagship in Downtown Crossing in Summer 2014, more than a dozen locations throughout Greater Boston by 2016

Consul General of France
, Fabien Fieschi, to officially unveil the future home of PAUL at One Boston Place in Downtown Crossing. PAUL is an authentic, family-owned French bakery-café specializing in artisanal, freshly-baked breads. The new bakery-cafe will feature a full menu of breads, pastries and gourmet sandwiches ranging from traditional French banquettes to PAUL’s signature macarons.
“I am pleased to welcome PAUL to Downtown Crossing,” said Mayor Menino. “I have no doubt that PAUL will not only seamlessly blend with our traditionally historic city, but also continue to enhance Downtown Crossing’s growing culinary and fresh food landscape.”
The One Boston Place location is slated to open in summer 2014, and will occupy more than 6,000 square feet on the ground floor of the building, including a 2,770 square foot mezzanine and an outdoor patio. The flagship bakery-cafe is ideally situated at a cross section of Boston commuter transit, tourism and foot traffic. One Boston Place will be the first of four boutique bakeries scheduled to open in 2014, with up to seven additional locations slated to open in 2015 and 2016.
“Boston evokes a European sentiment, offering a unique mix of highly-educated, well-travelled and discerning customers in a very dynamic and history-rich setting,” said PAUL USA President and CEO Philippe Sanchez. “We are extremely excited to bring PAUL to the northeast, and the warm welcome and encouragement that we have received from the city representatives and local communities only add to our enthusiasm for the city.”
“PAUL’s commitment to quality and craftsmanship have made it a mainstay in France and throughout the world, and I’m thrilled this iconic bakery-café will represent our country in Boston’s ever-evolving culinary scene,” said Boston’s Consul General of France Fabien Fieschi. “I am thrilled to take part in welcoming one of my favorite French brands to Boston.”
The new bakery-café will mark the international brand’s first foray into the Northeast after a successful introduction to the US Market in Washington, DC in 2011. PAUL is now present in 29 countries with nearly 600 bakery-cafés world-wide.
