Fairmont Indigo Corridor Visioning Meeting in Mattapan Draws Over 80 Attendees
Dec 10, 2013
Over 80 stakeholders from the Mattapan area joined BRA Planners, the City of Boston, the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, and project consultants, Cecil Group and McMahon Associates, at a Community Visioning Forum on December 5, 2013. Attendees joined the Mayoral-appointed 13-member Blue Hill Ave/Cummins Hwy Working Advisory Group (WAG) to discuss ideas and goals for economic development, job growth, open space, and transit improvements in the neighborhoods surrounding the Blue Hill Ave/Cummins Hwy Fairmount Line Station.
Attendees were distributed into six breakout groups and asked to highlight issues and opportunities within the study area on maps. The groups then prioritized the ideas using game pieces depicting the six themes of the forum: Prosperity (economic development), housing, parks and public space, place, getting around (transit), and quality of life. Many attendees focused on leveraging the proposed Blue Hill Ave/Cummins Hwy MBTA Fairmount Line Station as a means to boost economic development in the area. Many also highlighted the need for strategies to reduce the congestion along Blue Hill Avenue. The results of the forum will help the WAG prioritize the most important issues and opportunities to pursue as the planning effort continues.
The visioning forum is part of the ongoing Fairmount Indigo Planning Initiative, which is one of the largest planning efforts ever undertaken in Boston.
