2013 Recap: LifeTech

In 2013 LifeTech assisted more than 20 companies looking for a new home, helping them navigate city services and identifying financial resources. As a result:

Six new life sciences companies moved to Boston, creating approximately 50 jobs

  • CareCloud from Florida,
  • Hemarina from France,
  • Human Metaboloma Technologies from Japan (relocated from Cambridge),
  • Z-Medica from Connecticut,
  • 908 Devices
  • KNODE, Inc. from Cambridge.
  • Collectively, these companies contributed  approximately 50 jobs to the Boston economy.
Five life sciences companies expanded their presence in Boston, adding 33 new jobs

  • Sample6 Technologies – new manufacturing facility in BMIP;
  • inviCRO – new state of the art laboratory facility in the BMIP;
  • scPharmaceuticals (formerly known as SpringLeaf Therapeutics) expanded their presence in the city;
  • Rest Devices expanded their offices and moved from Fort Point Channel to the Leather District;
  • CloudHelath Technologies settled into their new home in the Fort Point Channel relocating from the Venture Development Incubator at UMass Boston. 
 
In addition to working with companies directly, staff worked with:

  • Over 15 consulates and trade & investment organizations on attracting international business to Boston.
  • State partners, including MassBio and Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) on attracting out-of-state companies, and promoting the City at different conferences and events.
 
Conferences, Industry Events, and Roundtables

In 2013 LifeTech staff attended several conferences and industry-related events, as well as hosting a round-table discussion:

  • Attended the BIO International Convention (BIO) held in Chicago and met with over 30 life sciences companies/international delegations.
  • Attended 2013 Financial Times US Healthcare and Life Sciences Conference in New York City where we connected with the sector’s national and international leaders and met with several companies and trade organizations.
  • Partnered with CareInnovators, on the first CareForward (FWD) event aimed at bringing the Massachusetts health care community together for a day filled with keynotes, panels, and talks with some of the biggest names in the industry.
  • Partnered with BioTech Tuesday on their first ever biotech pitch event, including a pitch session for ideas, table pitches for innovative products, and informal networking.
  • Hosted a round-table discussion with members of the life sciences real estate community to generate ideas on how LifeTech might better support tenant needs as the industry grows. Approximately 40 representatives were in attendance.
