Mayor Walsh Celebrates 315 on A & Green Patriot Posters Opening

Jan 17, 2014

Mayor Martin J. Walsh celebrated the opening of the Innovation District's newest residential building, 315 on A, with Kelly Saito from Gerding Edlen, Brian Swett of  Boston's Energy and Environment Department, John Fish of Suffolk Construction, and Sam Aquillano from Design Museum Boston.

The $100 million 315 on A project is a 20-story 257,000 square foot building with 202 rental units including 22 onsite affordable units, 61 bike parking units, and 96 vehicle parking spaces. A 20th floor skyline lounge is available to all residents and adds unique space to meet, network and share talents with other residents and their guests.

315 on A is another part of the City of Boston’s priority to increase the supply of accessible housing in the South Boston Waterfront. Currently, there is 2.6M square feet and $1.3B of development under construction in the Innovation District, including 919 units of housing.

315 on A expects to achieve LEED Gold status. The building is designed to maximize space and minimize energy usage through efficient design and emphasis on locally-sourced and recycled-content materials. Smart thermostats known as the “Nest” can be found in each unit. A 75 kW combined heat and power (co-gen) unit generates electricity for the building's common areas and produces heat used in the building. The combined annual energy savings of the building is estimated to be enough to power 126 homes, remove 38 cars from the road and save 3,812,000 gallons of water.

The new building is hosting the Design Museum Boston’s Green Patriot Posters exhibit. Each poster is unique and is designed to raise awareness of global climate change and inspire viewers to take action, including planting their own urban gardens, reducing waste that goes to landfills, and changing their buying habits.

315 on A is Gerding Edlen’s second Boston project. The company is based in Portland, Oregon and is one of the nation’s leaders in sustainable development.
