ONEin3 Council Alum Michael (Mike) Loconto Appointed to Boston School Committee
Apr 02, 2014
Michael Loconto, ONEin3 Council Member from 2010-2012, has been appointed by Mayor Martin J. Walsh to serve on the Boston School Committee, quite the feat as the BPS system was founded in 1647 and educates 57,000 students in 128 schools across the city.
While serving on the ONEin3 Council, Mike brought young adults from neighborhoods across Boston together to make connections and encourage civic engagement in Boston, as well as organized a career seminar at Roxbury Community College.
As a school committee member, Mike will work to define the vision, mission and goals of Boston public schools, establish and monitor annual operating budget, participate in hiring, managing and evaluating the Superintendent and setting and reviewing district policies and practices to support student achievement.
Mike’s overall goal for Boston is to make sure that the perception of the city matches the reality: that we are an inviting, young, and engaged city that is open for business and ready to welcome newcomers while preserving the rich history and deep family traditions that have endured for decades and beyond.
Mike, now 35, lives in West Roxbury with his wife and three children.
