Mayor Walsh to honor winners of Boston Living with Water competition during celebration at BSA Space

Jun 05, 2015

Over $50,000 in prizes to be awarded in recognition of innovative strategies that address sea level rise and climate change

The Boston Living with Water competition will draw to a close during a reception at BSA Space, Boston’s leading center for architecture and design, on Monday, June 8. Competition jurors will announce three outstanding winning teams, which will each receive a $13,000 prize, and an honorable mention that will receive $4,000. The final awards event concludes after months of deliberation. In February, submissions from 50 teams from around the globe were narrowed down to nine semi-finalists. Their work was displayed in BSA Space. The competition challenged teams to envision solutions to sea level rise in Boston at three different sites and scales—a building, a significant piece of city infrastructure, and a neighborhood. A gallery of all the submissions is available at www.BostonLivingWithWater.org.

Mayor Martin J. Walsh and Austin Blackmon, the City’s Chief of Environment, Energy, and Open Space will join Boston Living with Water organizers to announce the winning teams and award cash prizes. Finalists’ work will be exhibited after the award ceremony, where a panel of jurors will discuss outcomes, the selection of winners, and lessons learned from the competition.

Boston Living with Water is a partnership between the City of Boston, The Boston Harbor Association, the Boston Society of Architects, and the Boston Redevelopment Authority. Public programs related to the competition are produced by the BSA Foundation.

Interested attendees are encouraged to RSVP for the awards ceremony.
