YOU Boston, Mayor Walsh recognize local youth employees

Aug 11, 2016

On August 10, 2016, Youth Options Unlimited (YOU) Boston and Mayor Martin J. Walsh recognized youth who’ve completed YOU Boston’s Summer 2016 Employment Program in an event at the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building. Other notable attendees included Superintendent-In-Chief William Gross, Boston Police Department and Trinh Nguyen, Director of the Mayor's Office of Workforce Development.

YOU Boston operates their Summer Employment Program for high- and proven-risk youth, between the ages of 14 and 24, who are court-involved and/or gang-affiliated. Youth participants in this program are referred to YOU Boston by Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF), Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC), Boston Public Schools (BPS), Department of Youth Services (DYS), Suffolk County House of Corrections, Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston’s YOUTH Connect, and multiple other community partners. Youth participants are then organized into teams, or placed as individuals, at specific worksites to provide a variety of community services.

This annual event is held to recognize young people who have successfully participated in a meaningful work experience through YOU Boston’s Summer Employment Program. In addition, this event recognized those who participated in special workforce development initiatives during spring 2016.

YOU Boston also extended a special thank you to several employment partners who have hired or plan to hire Summer 2016 Employment Program participants.
