Overview
The Boston Community Energy Study explores the potential for local energy generation, district energy and microgrids. The Study is a collaboration between The Mayor’s Office of Environment Energy and Open Spaces, the Planning Department, MIT Sustainable Design Lab, and MIT Lincoln Laboratory.

The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center granted $75,000 to the Boston Planning & Development Agency as seed funding to develop the team, framework, and technological advances necessary for the study and provide the methodology to execute similar studies in other Massachusetts communities.
The Barr Foundation generously contributed a match funding grant for a three-year fellowship staff position at the BPDA to explore EcoDistricts and District Energy within Boston.
