This is the website for the City of Boston’s new Planning Department, which launched on July 1. The staff and many responsibilities of the Boston Planning & Development Agency have moved to the Planning Department of the City of Boston including planning & zoning, urban design, development review, and real estate divisions. Last year Exelon Corporation sold the century old Edison Power Plant, located at 776 Summer Street, to Redgate/Hilco who intend on developing the 15 acre site with a mix of uses and new open space. This planning initiative is intended to engage the South Boston community and determine their interests and aspirations related to housing, transportation, public realm improvements, cultural facilities and placemaking. The process will inform the development plan for the site and future zoning.
