Boston Conservatory Building Renovation Will Improve Building Facade

Sep 15, 2011

Private investment / Total project cost: $8 million Total square footage: approx 17,000 sq ft. The Boston Conservatory will move ahead with the purchase of a 17,000 square foot building at 132 Ipswich Street following the BRA board’s approval of the Conservatory’s first-ever Institutional Master Plan (IMP) in its 145-year history. The purchase and planned $8 million renovation of the building signals Boston Conservatory’s investment in the Fenway neighborhood, which will breathe new life into an underutilized Boston building with a façade upgrade and street activation from students. Initial plans call for the building renovation for dance, music and theater programs and related support space. The only planned change to the physical building is increasing the height of the roof in one area. Boston Conservatory does not plan to expand its student population, but is consolidating its programming in the area as several leases at buildings in the Fenway neighborhood expire.
