Vacant Dorchester Building will be converted into Affordable Housing

Number of jobs: construction jobs: 25 Housing: 32 affordable rentals A development team led by Caritas Communities, Inc plans to renovate a vacant Dorchester building into 32 affordable housing units, following the board’s approval of the project. The 12,500 square foot building is located at 307 Bowdoin Street; the former convent building associated with St. Peter’s Church, and will be restored into 32 studios with kitchenettes and private bathrooms. Of the 32 units, one unit will be for persons at or below a $40,000 income level, 27 will be for persons at or below a $33,750 income level, and 4 units will be for persons at or below a $20,250 income level. The $7,650,000 renovation project is being funded by a public, private partnership. Construction is planned to start in 2013 and finish by early 2014.
