Public Space Invitational Info Session Draws Boston's Creatives to District Hall
Feb 26, 2014
On Wednesday the
Office of New Urban Mechanics hosted a meeting at
District Hall to answer questions about
Mayor Walsh's Public Space Invitational. As a partner in the initiative, Boston Redevelopment Authority staff were on hand to assist with comments and questions.
The invitational seeks to activate Boston's public spaces with "random, awesome designs (RAD) that mystify and captivate passerbys." The Office of New Urban Mechanics used the
seat-e, which was installed on the
Greenway in November 2013, as an example of the type of work that is reflective of the Invitational's call for art. The Office of New Urban Mechanics will award small grants of $1,000-4,500 to the selected applicants, and anticipate selecting four to six projects. BRA staff will assist in evaluating the proposals that will be selected.
The informational event drew a crowd of more than 80 attendees and included artists, designers, architects, and engineers. Submissions are due March 28, 2014 at 11:59 pm.
