Mt. Vernon St. Redesign Planning Process Getting Started on Columbia Point

Mar 14, 2014

Mount-Vernon-Street-Planning-Page-Image.jpgThis month, the BRA begins a public process to redesign Mt. Vernon Street in Columbia Point.  Please come join the BRA and neighbors as we redesign the street!

The purpose of this project is to beautify the street and make it safe and comfortable for all users--walkers, bikers, drivers and transit passengers.  To further develop the initial ideas for the street and create a design that reflects community aspirations, the BRA will reach out extensively to residents, students, institutions, and businesses. A series of community meetings to gather input will be held in Columbia Point over the next few months. The Kickoff is scheduled for March 27 at 6:00 PM.

The Mt. Vernon Street Redesign follows on the heels of the 2011 Columbia Point Master Plan Process. In the plan, Mt. Vernon Street was identifed as a critical corridor that connects Columbia Point's dynamic neighborhoods and institutions, including Harbor Point on the Bay, UMass Boston, the coming Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, and Boston College High School.

We look forward to seeing you at the first public meeting of the process!

When:  Thursday, March 27, 6:00 to 8:00 PM
Where:  Corcoran Mullens Jennison Community Building, 270 Mt. Vernon Street, Columbia Point (Dorchester)
