Economic Equity is a common thread that runs through many of the Walsh Administration’s departments. Mayor Walsh has convened a working group to ensure a coordinated effort to present the Administration’s Economic Equity Agenda. This report presents the four main themes of the Economic Equity Agenda as income and employment, wealth creation, business development, and economic mobility for the community and the next generation.

"imagine all the people" is a series of publications produced by the BRA for the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Advancement. The series provides a comprehensive profile of Boston’s diverse immigrant communities. This report profiles the 27% of the Boston population who are foreign born.

High Tech in Boston is booming! Boston is home to a strong high tech sector that has grown nine percent per year since 2010. Boston is particularly strong in computer systems design and scientific research and development.

Young adults are a key demographic in Boston, making up about 40% of the population. This report examines the young adult demographic, using primarily 2014 American Community Survey data.

Boston at a Glance is a series that presents some selected demographic, economic and housing characteristics of Boston. The data used in this report is a combination of 2013 ACS 1-Year Estimate and 2009-2013 ACS 5-Years Estimates. Updated January 28, 2019 to ensure consistency across publications.

2014 marked the 20th consecutive year that Boston received the most NIH funding of any U.S. city. Forty-six Boston institutions received 3,521 NIH awards for more than $1.7 billion in funding. This total represents 5.7% of all NIH spending and 71.4% of all NIH funding in Massachusetts. Eight Boston organization received over $100 million each in NIH funding, reinforcing Boston as a powerhouse in medical research.

“Imagine all the People” is a series of publications produced by the Boston Redevelopment Authority for the Mayor’s Office of New Bostonians, that provides a comprehensive profile of Boston’s diverse immigrant communities and their numerous contributions to the city’s social, cultural, and economic landscape. It is part of an ongoing effort to celebrate new Bostonians and gain insight into how our city is shaped by their presence.

The BRA Research Division prepared this presentation for the Boston Citywide Plan to provide a factual basis to understand 1) historical trends that have shaped poverty and inequality in Boston, 2) the extent of poverty and inequality in Boston today, and 3) specific populations that are disproportionately affected by poverty and inequality.
