Resiliency: Sea Level Rise, Living Shoreline, Resilient Infrastructure
Sustainability: Green Building, Carbon Reduction
To reduce the flood risk, the residential first flood is raised, there is integrated flood barricades to protect low spaces, and durable public spaces are provided. The project creates approximately 34,400 square foot of new intertidal zone consisting of tidal flats, coastal banks, rocky intertidal shores, and salt marsh from existing solid fill at the end of the western wharf. The new wetlands help to improve the water quality and habitat of Boston Harbor to allow users to access the water including a community kayak center. The project has completed a new section of Harborwalk 6.5 feet above the high tide level to increase site and building flood resiliency. The building will also install solar panel array to provide electricity services, is designed to use 20% less energy allowed by the Massachusetts Stretch Code, and is forecasted to achieve a 30% energy cost savings.
