Address
99 Summer Street, East Boston
Design Phase
Resiliency: Sea Level Rise, Living Shoreline
Sustainability: Green Building, Carbon Reduction
The ground floor of the building will be constructed at elevation 19.5’ (BCB), elevating the building to the future Sea Level Rise Base Flood Elevation. To further resist sea level rise and reduce flood risk, an elevated sheet pile bulkhead shoreline stabilization structure has been designed for the project. The building will achieve LEED v4 for BD+C, New Construction and Major Renovation silver certification with 55 points. Efficient heating and cooling systems, light colored reflective roofing material, water reduction strategies, and electric car charging stations are some of the many integrated sustainable features. The project transforms a vacant urban waterfront site, currently inaccessible to the public, into a mixed-use development with multiple public amenities. A 15’ wide walkway along the waterfront completes the East Boston Harborwalk, connecting the 240’ linear gap remaining between The Eddy and Piers Park.
