Sustainability: Green Building, Carbon Reduction
Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital elevated its first floor as high as possible to prevent against projected sea-level rise; 42” above the current 100-year flood line and 30” above the 500-year flood line. The building achieved LEED V2 BD+C Gold Certification with 44 points out of 69. The highly energy-conserving building envelope, natural daylighting, gas-fired cogeneration system, and other features combine to keep the carbon emissions of the building far below those of most hospitals.
